It’s often in the face of unexpected challenges that the true strength of a community is revealed. Moments when you're called to act - not because you're prepared, but because it's simply the right thing to do.

That was the case for both of us, Sandra and I, in September 2024, when Hurricane Helene swept through Western North Carolina, leaving destruction and hardship in its wake.

​

Without hesitation, we stepped into action. We coordinated volunteers, organized food and supply distributions, raised funds, and assisted with clean-up efforts. Though we initially launched separate efforts, we quickly realized the power of working together. Together, we could bring more relief, more resources, and ultimately, more hope.

What we witnessed in those days was nothing short of remarkable - neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming friends, and a network of kindness and generosity stretching far beyond our own circles. It became clear this was more than a moment. It was a movement.

From that shared experience, Hands of Hope was born. A nonprofit rooted in compassion, action, and the belief that even in the darkest times, hope shines brightest when we extend a hand to others.
